35 YEARS AFTER ITS FOUNDATION, THE HISTORIC AND IDIOSYNCRATIC GERMAN BAND MAKES ITS LONG-AWAITED DEBUT IN PORTUGAL!
Os GOETHES ERBEN são considerados uma das bandas definidoras de estilo da cena gótica nos anos 90. A formação em torno do vocalista Oswald Henke está ativa desde 1989 e tem continuado a desenvolver-se desde então. Henke descreve seu trabalho artístico como “teatro musical em língua alemã”, uma definição apropriada para um projeto multifacetado no qual as letras (mais faladas do que cantadas) têm sempre um significado muito especial. Um total de dez álbuns de estúdio foram lançados até o momento, e o novo, “X”, editado em 2023, demonstra, categoricamente, a criatividade contínua da banda. Contudo, GOETHES ERBEN não é apenas música; Ao longo dos anos, a banda estreou várias peças de teatro musical, incluindo “Rückkehr Ins Niemandsland” e “Menschenstille”, que foram gravadas para a posteridade. Agora, 35 anos após sua fundação, a histórica banda germânica estreia-se finalmente ao vivo em Portugal! Eis um bom motivo para considerar este concerto um dos destaques do festival EXTRAMURALHAS 2024!
GOETHES ERBEN are regarded as one of the style-defining bands of the gothic scene in the 90s. The formation around and with frontman Oswald Henke has been active since 1989 and has continued to develop ever since. Henke describes his artistic work as “German-language music theatre,” an apt description for such a multi-faceted project in which the lyrics (more spoken than sung) always have a very special significance. A total of ten studio albums have been released to date, and the new one, “X”, released in 2023, demonstrates their ongoing creativity! However, GOETHES ERBEN is not “just” music; several musical theatre pieces, including “Rückkehr Ins Niemandsland” and “Menschenstille,” have premiered by them over the years and have been recorded for posterity. Now, 35 years after their formation, they finally play in Portugal for the very first time. That’s a very good reason to consider this live concert one of the highlights of EXTRAMURALHAS 2024‘s festival!

Rendemo-nos ao músico britânico DOUGLAS DARE em 2016 quando editou “Aforger”, o então segundo álbum. A estreia dera-se em 2014 com o não menos obrigatório longa-duração “Whelm” e desde então ficámos com o seu nome no nosso radar. Agora, volvidos mais de uma década após o primeiro impacto que teve em nós, e depois de o acompanharmos também no aclamado disco de 2020 (“Milkteeth”) achámos que chegara o momento de o ter entre nós e de inscrever-lhe o nome na história do EXTRAMURALHAS. A sua música inventiva, aparentemente frágil e de aura assombrada, é uma teia de melodias melancólicas onde assenta, que nem uma luva, a sua voz dolente, cujo timbre nos remete para um universo algures entre James Blake, Patrick Wolf ou David Sylvian. Um momento solene e de grande elegância nos espera no Teatro José Lúcio da Silva com o músico a incidir a sua prestação no novo álbum “Omni” que, segundo as palavras do mesmo, representa “um fresco despertar”. Despertemos, pois, todos os nossos sentidos!
We surrendered to the British musician DOUGLAS DARE in 2016 when he released “Aforger,” his then second album. His debut had occurred in 2014 with the no less essential full-length “Whelm,” and since then we have kept his name on our radar. Now, more than a decade after the first impact he had on us, and after also following him on the acclaimed 2020 album (“Milkteeth”), we felt it was time to have him among us and to inscribe his name in the history of EXTRAMURALHAS. His inventive, seemingly fragile music with a haunted aura is a web of melancholic melodies where his mournful voice, reminiscent of a universe somewhere between James Blake, Patrick Wolf, or David Sylvian, fits like a glove. A solemn and elegant moment awaits us at the Teatro José Lúcio da Silva, with the musician focusing his performance on the new album “Omni,” which, in his own words, represents “a fresh awakening.” Let us awaken, then, all of our senses!
